The Art of
Suzhou Embroidery
A living thread of Chinese heritage, stitched into every cup of tea.
2,000 Years of Living Art
Suzhou embroidery — su xiu () — is one of China’s four great embroidery traditions, with roots stretching back over two millennia. Originating in the silk-rich workshops of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, this art form reached its zenith during the Song and Ming dynasties, when imperial patrons commissioned pieces of extraordinary refinement.
Each piece is hand-stitched by master artisans using silk threads split to as fine as 1/48 of a single strand. The result is an image of almost painterly subtlety — where color gradients are achieved not with a brush, but with thousands of tiny, precise stitches.
At Cinnabar Tea, we believe that tea and embroidery share a common philosophy: both are expressions of patience, place, and the quiet pursuit of beauty. That’s why every order includes a hand-stitched Suzhou embroidery piece — a small, lasting piece of Chinese culture, crafted for you.
